There will be things in this job that you can spin into positives around your career goals. Take this and start saving.

Often times the Bank's TOS will not allow you to do what you are doing. Transferring one debt to another from separate individuals. I suspect that is what is getting you flagged.

Order Superchecks for your new card, write the check to yourself, deposit the amount you need to pay off your wife's card, make the payoff payment from the checking and then shred the rest or keep them safe. That is what I would do rather than spending hours on the phone with the fraud department over and over.

I read it as you creating barriers for yourself right now. You have a lot of time to find your perfect role. Maybe the new job you are looking at is your perfect role, you don't know that you won't like your job. I feel like you have a put a box around yourself and a very rigid future plan. Life is uncertain, and I think this is too good of an opportunity to pass up right now.

There is next to zero chance of Peloton recovering. They completely and utterly failed to capitalize on their first mover advantage and the competitors have more or less caught up and are almost as good and significantly cheaper. 

They are probably praying another fitness company makes an incredibly boneheaded decision and purchases them (but after Lululemon’s complete write off of Mirror, odds of that are next to zero, as well). 

I’m in the minority I think. Residence is 35% of my NW, but that’s a conscious decision. The home is a year round residence in the middle of a national park with ski in/out access in the winter. It’s my dream home in my dream location. 

I’m comfortable with the carrying costs given how much utility it gives me.

This is PTSD, you need to talk to a therapist.

Unions usually appeal to people who think they might be "taken advantage of" by corporations. SWEs and most other white collar workers think they can negotiate better by themselves. Also, there's a lot of variability in skill levels in software engineering, which makes it very hard to normalize at a group level.

Take the job and save money. Pivot into desired roles later. Great way to thrust your personal worth up in the short term.

Holy shit.. only 2 years of experience and you make 210K salary? Or is your benefits, vacation, 401K etc all factored in to that? Esp living in Arkansas! Must live like a king out there on even half that salary.

If they need this money to meet monthly expenses then just keep it safe in a high yielding savings account such as at Ally Bank. No need to take any risk with it.

In what world do juniors bring what are essentially personal problems and interpersonal drama to someone with 20 yoe? This is insanely immature imo, and worrisome that there’s a culture that doesn’t squash this immediately. 

With the management issues, I would make sure everything is documented and has receipts. Sucks, but need to CYA until you can find an exit plan

Does your work offer counselling or EAP for this type of thing? Can you have a heart to heart with your supervisor, see if they have any guidance? Head on a swivel, running shoes, self defense aren't bad ideas...but the commenter mentioning PTSD is right. You need to process this.

One day at a time. You’re capable of solving any problem. Show up and work hard.

I got sober and it's one of the best things I've ever done. It's not a cure-all, but it really helped me to pay better attention to the signs of stress and fatigue.

In order for Peloton to survive we need to look at what helped similar cycling competitors like Zwift survive. The major difference to me is that Zwift appealed to hardcore road cyclists. Secondarily is not tying their service to any one bike trainer. Zwift isn't a closed ecosystem. It's far more like a MMORPG and Zwift doesn't really care how you access their game.

To my mind, Peloton is too focused on hype to succeed. It's built as a closed ecosystem. And it doesn't attract a hardcore base. Even pro cyclists will voluntarily use Zwift as part of their training.

Sub 15% on 3 personal use properties. 

Eyeing a new place in the Yucatán. Still going to stay under 20%. Likely around 17%.

Don't take this too harshly but this might partly be regret at getting caught out and unprepared. If you are working around the mentally ill, you can reasonably expect to experience the wider social fallout from that condition. So set yourself to first, run the F away as fast as possible, and secondly defend yourself if Plan A fails. Up to you what's reasonable.

I've had a manager try to enforce more days in the office than was company standard. It might not be so simple where you are but I just didn't show up. He tried to call me on it and I said no. 


I think being more assertive could help you here. If it's not in the task list it doesn't get done. Make it clear. Anything that gets added to the list needs to be discussed and prioritised. If he complains direct him to the task list and remind him if it's not there it doesn't get done. Tell the juniors if they need your help then they can message you. If you have time you can pencil them in for 15-30 minutes but don't go over the alloted time.

I am the bread winner in our household, and I make just enough to make ends meet.

But it's no fun anymore. We can't really travel or spend a lot on entertainment, we need a bigger home to accommodate a growing family, and most of all she needs to feel like she has a purpose.

She's always been hesitant to go to uni because of a mild case of dyslexia, and she's very insecure about herself. Basically no self-esteem whatsoever. Everyone's like that on her side of the family.

She used to work as a salesperson in department stores, but resigned from her last job 5 years ago because of burnout and pregnancy. She's not lazy or entitled or anything, but she's made some poor choices along the way.

Seriously, what would you do in this boat? Leaving is not an option. I want our family to work out. But something's gotta change.

Should she only aim for a job, or would a degree still be a good route? What kinds of jobs do you reckon could pay a decent salary without requiring an overly academic degree?

It's hard to give an accurate description of a marriage over a single Reddit post. My OP was written rather tersely, as I came here looking for career advice. This might have given off the wrong impression to some.

I couple years ago I made an account on credit karma to start monitoring my credit and building it. Once I put my information in, it shows me that I have a chase bank card that was opened in 2011… like when I was 11 or 12.

The credit card is being paid monthly, no overdue payments or late payments. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before and what might I do about it.

Every five years you delay getting your shit together in your twenties costs you one million dollars down the line. For context, I'm 29, and I've been reflecting on the current life outcomes of my peers from college.  Maybe this can serve as inspiration for those considering FIRE:

At the end of the race, when they are in their sixties, they are all multimillionaires. That's amazing, since it indicates that it's never to late to start. And yes, each five years makes about a million-dollars' difference. 

However, we must also consider how having financial flexibility at certain stages of life affects us.

A twenty-something with a six-figure brokerage account is in a commanding position to take calculated risks, to negotiate, and to explore deeper financial topics. Jay enjoys more stability and options and has been exposed to more financial concepts *simply because he has to deal with more complex finances.* Brie and Taylor, by comparison, are not thinking about diversification or interest rates in any capacity other than as intellectual exercises. 

At ten years out, Brie comes online. All three are now at the age where children, family, and houses are salient topics. Jay is in a position to put down a major downpayment (25%+) on a very nice home.  Jay is also now aware of the interplay between municipal regulations, zoning laws, interest rates, and broader macroeconomic variables. Brie is still building her nest egg and getting her financial footing. A house purchase at this point might leave her house poor. She has to weigh compound growth vs home ownership in a way Jay does not.. It finally daws on Taylor that she needs to get her shit together when she hears her friends discussing homes and checks her saving accounts to see a few hundred dollars...

Twenty years out. Jay is a millionaire. He's probably owns property, perhaps multiple properties. He has a sprawling mess of HSA's, 401k's, CD's, taxable brokerages, business accounts, and so forth. He's becoming adept at managing the complexity. Brie's been putting in work and is now able to consider alternatives like coastFIRE, a house, or a career change. Taylor has also been building momentum, but she is far behind her peers. She's still building her nest egg and can't afford to let off the gas in the way Jay already has and Brie is considering.

Imagine the psychological toll that having to grind into your 40's and 50's puts on you. Those are the years of admiring you empire, of enjoying hte fruits of your labor. You don't want to have to be up for 9am status updates with your disaffected manager working a non-factor job. FIRE is not just about retiring as an old fart with millions in the bank: it's about facing the challenges of the world having finance as a source of inspiration and freedom rather than as a source of anxiety and constraint.

*And this matters so so much*. 

I see it in the life outcomes of my friends. I know several Jays, many Bries, and a couple Taylors. I myself am a Brie so this isn't preaching from on high.

**ChatGPT** \- You probably know it. It’s a great tool for ideating, brainstorming, document summarization and quick question-answer work.

There’s a desktop app available so you can quickly pop it up by pressing control + space, which makes it even better for productivity.

**Claude** \- Another chat interface, similar to ChatGPT.

It’s a different model provider so the answers and behavior might be different.

From my experience, Claude 3.5 Sonnet is performing better than GPT-4o (but not o1) in tasks that focus on reasoning, code writing and copywriting.

There’s also a desktop app available.

**Gemini** \- Honestly, I’m not even sure where to put it.

It’s Google’s model, one of the most powerful in terms of multimodal capabilities (text, image, audio).

And it’s tailored for your Google Workspace.

Email, docs, spreadsheets, meets, presentation. Anything.

**Perplexity** \- Perplexity is an AI search engine that provides answers to questions with up-to-date information.

So, forget Google. Use Perplexity to get answers to questions and dive down the rabbit hole.

**Exa AI** \- Exa is another advanced search engine that combines AI-driven neural search with traditional keyword search.

It understands the semantic meaning of queries and documents.

And you can also choose what you want to search: academic articles, news, reports, tweets etc.

**Granola** \- Great AI notepad for meetings.

It’s a desktop app, so there’s no bot joining your meetings.

It’s very easy to automate work without needing engineers.

And they have loads of templates.

**Wordware** \- A platform for building AI agents with natural language.

Honestly, for folks who are a bit more technical.

You simply prompt LLM to perform a task for you.

And you can build any integration you want.

If you’re a builder, you can later on connect the agent via API.



I strongly believe that technology is leverage. And with AI we can be in top 0.1% of people.

tools I use to not have to hire anyone

***(disclaimer - this post doesn't advocate for or against unions per se. I want to point out the divergence between different worker groups, divergence that  posters on unions  often ignore).***

Every few days, it feels, there's a post where OP asks why we don't unionize or would would it take, or how everyone feels about it.

Most of the time what's missing, however, is the definition of "WE", its structure and composition. From the simplified Marxist point of view "we" here can mean "workers", but workers in this industry are split into multiple subgroups with vastly different goals.

Let's explore those subgroups and their interests, and we shall see why there's much (understandable) hesitance and resistance to unions.

So, who are included in "WE" (hereafter I'm writing from the US perspective)?

1. **Foreign workers.** Foreign workers (living in other, often more considerably more poor countries) love outsourcing of work from USA - it brings prosperity and jobs to their countries! So we can establish here that unless "WE" are all fine with American pay (in the tech industry) dropping to some average global level - the interest of American workers and workers from other countries don't align.
2. **Immigrants to US.** Immigrants to US (H1Bs, green card holders, US citizens whose friends and family are immigrants) often have shockingly pro-immigration views - which are contradicting those of US workers who are seeking to protect their leverage. They got here, they worked hard, they earned their. When someone exclaims "Don't you understand that it hurts American Workers?" they think "yeeeah but...why do you think that I give a fuck?"
3. **Entry level workers.** Young people / people changing careers, both trying to break into the field.  Understandably, they want lower entry barriers, right? At least until *they* got in and settled.
4. **Workers with (advanced) CS degrees.** Many of them probably won't mind occupational licensing to protect their jobs. Make CS work similar to doctors and lawyers - degrees, "CS school", bar exams, license to practice! Helps with job safety, give much more leverage against employers.
5. **Workers with solid experience and skills but no degree.** Those people most definitely hate the idea of licenses and mandatory degrees, they see those as a paper to wipe your butt with, a cover for those who can't compete on pure merit.
6. **Workers with many years of experience, but not the top of league.**  Not everyone gets to FAANG, not everyone needs to. There are people who have lots of experience on paper, but if you look closer it's a classic case of "1 year repeated twenty times", they plateaued  years ago, probably aren't up-to-date on the newest tech stacks and aren't fans of LeetCode. They crave job security, they don't want to be pushed out of industry - whether by AI, by offshoring, by immigrants, by fresh grads or by bootcampers. So they...probably *really* want to gate keep, and gate keep hard. Nothing improves job security as much as drastically cutting the supply of workers.  Raise the entry barriers, repeal "right to work" laws, prioritize years of experience above other things and so on.
7. **Top of the league workers.** They have brains and work ethic, they are lucky risk takers and did all the right moves - so after many years of work they are senior/staff/principal+ engineers or senior managers/directors at top tier companies. Interests of such people are different from the majority of workers. It's not that they deliberately pull the ladder up behind them - they would gladly help talented juniors, but others are on their own. If their pay consists of 200k base + 300k worth of stocks every year, suddenly "shareholder benefit" is also directly benefitting them - if the stock doubles tomorrow their total comp would go from 500k to 800k (at least for some time). So why would they not be aligned with shareholders value approach?

There are probably other categories, but those above should be enough to illustrate the structure of "WE".

Why "WE" Don't Unionize

My client wanted to rebrand to reflect the change in management at the brewery he had just bought.

I did a subtle rebrand for him, redesigning his logo and modernizing the design a bit, but nothing drastic. Why? Because I conducted tests with his social media followers and regular clients, and they all seemed to love the brand, believing the branding itself was iconic.

However, his girlfriend wanted to completely overhaul the brand, logo, packaging, and everything associated with it.

I tried to advise against it, but they still wanted to move forward with the changes. So, I suggested doing a pilot with a small group of clients.

They did, and it didn't turn out well. Some clients purchased less than usual, and others didn’t trust the new packaging, insisting on the old packs they had been buying.

In the end, he reverted to the original branding, and his girlfriend stopped calling me repeatedly to tell me what I should do.

So, if you're rebranding, think before you leap and take the time to do the tests.

I want to hear about the truly "mid" devs. People whose magnum opus is a few daemons away from a CRUD app, who can nail the right LC Medium only if their coffee was made right that morning, who stutter on morning standups, who need VS-Code to do Git and think that Kubernetes is the name of the Apple headquarters.

I want to hear a success story from 2024-2025 from someone that everyone would otherwise discount as a ZIRP hire.

Any recent job hunt success stories from SWE's that kind of suck?

Mine are just entering their 20’s. One already finished college and has $250K offers from Netflix and Google. The other is going into med school. They are on the right track. No drugs. Super stable long term relationships.


I want to move money into their names now but not sure just transferring $500K to their accounts is the smart thing. We don’t want to discourage them from working or goals.



Is a trust a better idea? Or just wait until they need money for something big like a wedding, house, etc?


We’re GenX and don’t believe in the boomer mentality of waiting until we’re dead in 50 years to give them money.

Would you give your 20-something kids $250,000?

My elderly parents who have $0 in savings, $0 retirement and simply live off of SSDI of $2500 per month with a mortgage of $1300 per month just received a large SSA 310 deposit today. It’s over $50k. They have never received this sum of money and live very very low income. I helped them pay off all CC debt a few years ago so they only have Mortgage, Car, utilities and insurance. 

I would like to guide them on where to safely invest the money. Where would you put it? Im thinking low risk, somewhat accessible.

I lost my job as a software engineer in early December of 2024. This job was my first job and I was with the company (a car manufacturer) for a little bit over 5 years. I started with them as a software engineer working on their e-commerce team. Then, I earned a masters degree in data science and applied for a big data engineering role in the company. I got it and stayed with them for about a year and a half. To be honest, I hated it. The system is very very bloated and I felt like no matter what I did to learn it, I fell short. I felt like I wasn’t making progress so I switched back to my software engineering position where I excel. 

I got laid off along with hundreds of others at the end of the year. So I brushed off my resume and started applying. Since my first experience with data engineering was so bad, I am very insecure about getting a role in it again. And three years removed from my masters, I feel like I have forgotten all that I have learned and feel very insecure about it.

However, since data science is the big thing lately I get a lot of interviews for it. Today, I was finally offered a senior data analyst position. I was never an analyst, let alone a senior. So I don’t know if I should accept or reject the offer. As a senior, a lot will be expected of me and I am not there yet. At least that’s how I feel.

Any advice is welcome please! 



I am offered a job as a senior data analyst but I am having imposter syndrome

My wife has been carrying a significant balance on one of her cards. Since I have much better credit, I opened up a new card (Citi Simplicity) with 0% intro APR 18 months on balance transfers. I initiate the transfer, my card gets locked due to suspected fraud and the balance transfer gets declined. Fair enough, they're doing their job. I call to unlock the card. I give my security word. They ask if they can send me a text to verify it's me and I give my number. For some reason they're unable to text me (though I received a text from Citi to accept the terms and conditions of the initial balance transfer). To verify my identity, since I don't have another account with Citi, they call another bank I use. Fine. This unlocks my account. Then I'm transferred to regular customer service to process a new balance transfer. They tell me I will be contacted by the fraud department and should respond. This is where it starts to get absurd.

The next day I receive a call from an 844 number. It's a brief automated message about fraud that says nothing. There's nothing actionable, no prompt to press a button to confirm. Before too long I'll find out (though logging into the Citi app – no notification) that my account has been locked due to suspected fraud and the balance transfer declined. I've repeated this process 4 more times within a few weeks. If you've seen Edge of Tomorrow, I feel like Tom Cruise telling the fraud agent what will happen next and them insisting on following the same protocol to no different effect. I've asked for email confirmations of our discussion, pre-authorizing a balance transfer for a specified amount from a specific person, and to speak with someone higher up. None of these options have been granted. In the meantime, interest is capitalizing on my wife's card and I'm out of ideas for breaking this absurd cycle. I would be grateful for any suggestions on circumventing the situation. I'm just trying to take on someone else's debt – someone I'm legally bound to. It shouldn't be this hard.

I've been working for 20 years and in corporate tech for 15 of those years. I don't know how people do this for 40+ years because I'm reaching the end here. Last year, I was at a huge company that had town halls joking about how they're the next Titanic. It was way worse - financials were always terrible, the products did not work, there were several mass layoffs, no one in leadership could communicate their vision, and employees were always on edge.

In October, I left and while I don't regret leaving, I still feel residual burnout from these prior places. The new company is much better overall and smaller, so a lot less bureaucracy and more stability. They actively try to improve the customer and employee experience. They will actually take surveys and make actionable roadmaps. In 3 months, I've seen some great changes. The people are young and smart, except for my team, and they always want to help. Benefits are also top notch and mostly free. 

**That's where the good ends.** My team is not like the rest of the company. While my stakeholders are great, dealing with my team is like babysitting 10 overgrown toddlers. My manager doesn't know what he wants and has no vision either, but will whine if you can't figure it out or read his mind. The guy makes $1 million and can't articulate what he wants or make a decision to save his life. I find myself siding with stakeholders most of the time. I've had great managers before and maybe they just set the bar too high. 

My peers don't talk to each other, like they had a big fight before I joined and they avoid me as well, and my junior team members need nonstop handholding. Half of the team can barely speak English, forget about writing emails. Just today, a BA stood at my desk asking me a list of 100 questions and asking me to help her write an email until I strongly suggested she ask all these to her manager instead. While I am a manager, I did not hire the junior folks so they will constantly ask me for help when their managers, my peers, are often nowhere to be found. 

I am so tired and burnt out from the nonsense already. To top it off, my manager thinks he's Jamie Dimon and decided we all need to return to the office 5x per week with "limited flexibility" for 3-4x. The rest of the company is remote-friendly and doing 2x in office tops. Meanwhile, half the employees are international. Now, I have to get up 2 hours earlier to get to the cubicle farm office, only to join 10 Zoom calls in a less comfortable setting with worse hardware, then spend another hour commuting home. When I'm not on a call, I get sucked into some vapid chitchat or some social event. All the junior folks bring me their problems and dramas with each other. Literally today, one had a problem with another because she took his regular hoteling desk. I've started hiding in the conference rooms to avoid my team and the loud floor. The office is simply not a productive place and it especially sucks that my team can't come together.

By the time I get home, I am so physically, mentally, and socially tired from fake smiling that I can't bring myself to do anything else and barely have the energy to talk to my partner. I'm definitely depressed M-F, but mostly fine on weekends. 

Things I've tried:

1. Being specific with my manager and having him agree to my weekly tasks. Despite this, he still gets upset the following week because I "forget" to do something that wasn't on the list but that he thought he told me (he never does). 
2. Taking days off but since I'm new, I don't have that many days. I also got very sick right after New Year's and ate up a few sick days for the year. 
3. Looking into an internal transfer. I've hinted at that with my HR contact but there is just very little movement internally because it's a small company. The teams I would want to join are also international, and I would not be able to move due to family reasons. 
4. Making plans after work to have something to look forward to, but I've found myself not excited to go and cancelling a few times on friends already. I don't want to be that person. 
5. Interviewing! The market still isn't great and it took me a year to find this role. 

Can't do it anymore... corporate burnout from RTO and working with idiots

You can get everything what you want.

Hey guys, any $PTON investors here? If you’ve been following Peloton, you probably remember the safety crisis surrounding the Tread+ treadmill back in 2021. Here’s a recap of the events and the latest news on the investor lawsuit.

 Peloton became really popular during the pandemic, with its connected fitness products riding a wave of popularity. But in March 2021, the company disclosed a tragic incident involving a child’s death caused by its Tread+ treadmill. Despite this, Peloton initially defended the product’s safety, assuring users it was safe when used as directed.

The situation escalated on April 17, 2021, when the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an urgent warning, highlighting 39 incidents involving injuries and one fatality. However, Peloton pushed back, calling the warning “inaccurate and misleading.”

By May 2021, Peloton finally decided to issue a voluntary recall of its Tread+ machines. The announcement triggered a 14% drop in Peloton’s stock, and by the end of 2021, shares had plummeted 76% from their January high.

So, at that point, investors filed a lawsuit, accusing Peloton of hiding info about the safety of its products and the company’s future growth prospects.

Now, Peloton has agreed to a $13.95M settlement to resolve the lawsuit, and even if the original deadline has passed, they’re accepting late claims. So, if you held $PTON shares during this time, you may be eligible to file a claim and recover a portion of your losses.

The company has since focused on rebuilding its reputation, partnering with retailers like Costco and Truemed and expanding its digital fitness offerings. Despite these efforts, its stock remains far below its 2021 peak, trading around $5 per share as of December 2024.

Peloton Tread+ Safety Controversy: From Fitness Boom to 76% Stock Drop. Could It Ever Recover?

A week ago I intervened as a woman was being assaulted on a street where I work. I sent my coworker inside to call the police, I  kept ample room (80 ft) or so and told the man the police were on their way and to stop hitting the woman. After some words the man pulled a knife and ran at me in the snow. I was wearing fancy shoes. He gained ground quickly. He was about 5 feet from me when he slipped and I was able to finally escape. 

He was picked up by police and identified. I pressed charges and went back to work.

For context I have been working as a Case Manager for children and their families for the last 6 months. The person I encountered was not on my case load but was in the area because of our services. My job has me going into the community to  interact with families who are often living on the edge and dealing with mental health problems. I have never had an issue with this. I have 2+ years of experience working at a group home with adults where things could get very intense. I have been in scary confrontations before.  I thought I was ok. My nerves seemed fine. However I'm feeling resentful that I now have to have my head on more of a swivel, I am feeling like I don't want to be exposed to more of these situations and that my work WILL put me in questionable situations. This has unfortunately oriented me to my world differently. Yesterday was my birthday and I stayed home to think about this all. I don't think I can do this work for long. However I have job hopped since Covid for various reasons and am afraid that I will have trouble in the current market. What should I do? I plan on talking to some one. This thing is hitting me strange and in a way I was not expecting.

Hi everyone, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. No one has been able to give me a perspective that makes this decision any easier—not even ChatGPT!

**Background:**  
My dream career title is Chief Sustainability Officer and I have been working toward that for years now. I have a BS in Environmental Sustainability and recently earned a Master's in Environmental Analytics (focused on ESG, CSR, and climate data analysis). I've always been passionate about sustainability, conservation, and risk management projects, and I've been actively pursuing roles like ESG analyst, sustainability PM, or strategy consultant.

Currently, I work at a nonprofit as a Program Manager, focusing on data analysis and program strategy. I took this job while pursuing my master’s for flexibility, but it pays $80K with minimal benefits.

Before this, I worked as a Customer Success Manager (CSM) at a cybersecurity company. It wasn’t what I expected for my career path, but I enjoyed the technical aspects, risk-related work, and client management.

**The Situation:**  
Recently, I reached out to my former manager (who I *loved* working with) to ask if she’d be a reference for my job applications. It turns out she’s now at a new cybersecurity company, building a CSM team, and she asked me to apply. After a few interviews, I was offered the position at $130,000 with 100% paid health insurance, stock and unlimited PTO.

Now I’m torn.

**The Pros:**

* **Huge salary increase:** It’s nearly double my current pay, which would help me save, pay off student loans, and live comfortably in a new city. (Relocating to NY)
* **Great manager:** She’s truly one of the best managers I’ve had and cares about my growth and success.
* **Competence:** I know I’m good at CSM work, and I find cybersecurity and AI interesting, especially as someone without a strong tech background. These industries seem to be growing and have cool potential.
* **It’s an opportunity:** I’ve been applying for sustainability-focused roles for months without a single interview, so it feels like a win to have an offer in hand.

**The Cons:**

* **Not aligned with my career goals:** This isn’t the role I envisioned after earning my master’s. I want to work in sustainability, risk management, and reporting.
* **Postponed goals:** Taking this job means delaying my transition into a sustainability-focused role for at least a year.
* **Potential for job hoping:** I always envisioned my next move as a permanent position, ideally 5 years or more. When I think about doing this role for 5 years, I'm not jazzed.
* **Limited advancement:** CSM roles don’t offer many growth opportunities unless I go into VP-level customer success, which doesn’t align with my interests.
* **Commitment concerns:** I’d feel guilty leaving this role (and my manager) if my dream sustainability job came along soon. I don’t want to burn bridges.

I’m struggling with what to prioritize: the immediate financial and professional benefits of this offer, or staying committed to my long-term sustainability career goals and hoping my ideal role will pop up in the next 2-4 months?

**What would you do in my position?** Would love to hear any advice, perspectives, or experiences that could help me make this decision.

Would I be making a mistake by not accepting this $130K role after months of no interviews?

I’m ignorant on this topic so please enlighten me. But why hasn’t tech unionized to make agreements about offshoring jobs to India or the Philippines. I make great money so it’s not about getting higher pay. But job security. For example if you move to the Bay Area and get let go the following year, the financial burden on you is massive. There are so many layoffs that I feel like if companies are going to push RTO then we need a safety net to protect against layoffs. 

Don’t misunderstand me I am actually totally fine with H1b because it means the work stays in the USA. But maybe part of the Union helps to make sure that companies aren’t doing too many h1b or that the entire leadership isn’t only Indian. I believe Indians are great workers! I say this only because Indians network like crazy for each other and sometimes keep other people out of leadership. 

Idk I just feel like a union could help for a few areas. Again not talking about pay. We all already make so much. 

Anyway I’m sure I don’t understand otherwise it’d already be a thing. Pls help me out!

Why no SWE Union?

The fires in LA and the catastrophic loss so many are experiencing got me thinking… And I’m leaning toward having less of my NW wrapped up in personal real estate, especially as I move closer to FIRE. 

Where do you guys sit with this?

For me: our home is worth ~$4M on a $38M net worth. I think going forward I’d like to keep it around 10% so I’m not far off. But the bulk of my portfolio is illiquid assets so I think being conservative makes sense (at 10% of NW with an assumed cost of capital around 5% my portfolio could weather the loss).

Of course the insurance considerations of your area may lead to a different calculation. I live in the SF Bay Area and like many was forced to accept CA Fair as my fire insurance which will likely only pay out a fraction of the value of any lost home over a certain amount.

At more than $10 trillion outstanding, the eurodollar market is one of the biggest forms of shadow banking activity out there. It's also one of the most interesting markets in existence, allowing non-US banks to hold and lend offshore dollars that effectively sit outside of the Federal Reserve's control. But where did eurodollars actually come from? Why did the US allow these "shadow dollars" to exist at all? And what do eurodollars mean for the greenback's role in the global financial system? In this special three-part series, we look back at the hidden history of the eurodollar market. The story is told by Columbia Law School Professor Lev Menand and Federal Reserve Bank of New York Policy Advisor Josh Younger. We start in the aftermath of World War II, when Europe is in the midst of an expensive reconstruction and the world is in the early throes of the Cold War. It's here that the eurodollar is born. At more than $10 trillion outstanding, the eurodollar market is one of the biggest forms of shadow banking activity out there. It&#39;s also one of the most interesting markets in existence, allowing non-US banks to hold and lend offshore dollars that effectively sit outside of the Federal Reserve&#39;s control. But where did eurodollars actually come from? Why did the US allow these &#34;shadow dollars&#34; to exist at all? And what do eurodollars mean for the greenback&#39;s role in the global financial system? In this special three-part series, we look back at the hidden history of the eurodollar market.
